The Women’s Studies Academic Journal Meeting Was Held

The “Women’s Studies Academic Journal Meeting” was held with the participation of editors managing academic journals in the field of women’s studies in Türkiye. The meeting was organized to facilitate the exchange of ideas among editors, to discuss current issues in women’s studies publishing, and to foster connections between women’s studies journals published in Türkiye.

The meeting, held at KADEM’s Headquarters, took place in two sessions. In the first session, editors gave presentations introducing their respective journals. These presentations highlighted both the short-term and long-term challenges faced by the journals. Some of the topics discussed included the quality of peer reviews, indexing in TRDİZİN and international indexes, and the differing formal requirements of various indexing systems.

In the second session, Prof. Dr. Pınar Melis Yelsalı Parmaksız gave a presentation titled “Method and Methodology in Women’s Studies in Türkiye.” She discussed her research, which focused on the methodological challenges encountered in theses produced in the field of Gender and Women’s Studies in Türkiye, particularly from the perspective of feminist methodology and critique. The methodological issues in master’s and doctoral theses in Türkiye, the occasional limitations of feminist theory and frameworks, as well as the sensitivities and shortcomings in presenting and reporting results were debated.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haydar Yalçın gave a detailed presentation on the indexing status of journals and the position of women’s studies journals worldwide. In his presentation, Yalçın referred to the findings of the study titled “Half a Century of Women’s Studies”, which he co-authored with Asst. Prof. Dr. Nursem Keskin Aksay, sharing current data in women’s studies. The presentation also included information on the distribution of key terms in women’s studies and their distribution by country.
